Finnfund is the Finnish development finance institution, majority owned by the Finnish state. Its mandate is to provide long-term risk capital for private sector projects in developing countries, with an emphasis on the poorer countries. It seeks to promote investments that are profitable and environmentally and socially sound, and focuses on certain sec-tors, including renewable energy, forestry and the environment. Apart from co-investing with Finnish companies Finn-fund can finance ventures that use Finnish technology, cooperate with Finnish partners on a long-term basis or gene-rate major environmental or social benefits. Finnfund also co-invests with other similar development finance institutions.
